Great Ghosts!: a fresh Pragmatic release with a 40,000x ceiling

The slot launched on April 23, 2026, and immediately landed in the high-ceiling category. Pragmatic Play stepped away from the usual Sweet Bonanza formula and went closer to a Hacksaw or Push Gaming style - dark mansion theme, three coloured scatters, an expanding grid and one big bonus feature instead of a pile of small mechanics.

The base game is intentionally minimal here. The top symbol pays just x1.25 for five in a line. All the actual money sits inside the Ghost Respin feature: you start on a 5x4 grid, then as money symbols stack up (8/12/16/20 collected) extra rows unlock and the field can grow up to 5x8. Money symbols stick to their positions, each one carries a value between x0.6 and x1,250, and at the end of the round everything gets summed up and paid out.

There are three scatters - blue, pink and green. Each accumulates in its own crystal ball above the reels and on bonus trigger adds one of three modifiers: Upgrade, Mystery or Extra. Any 4 scatters in a single spin guarantee bonus entry.

Recommended RTP is 96.50%, volatility is high, and per the provider's published math the bonus rate sits around once per 81 spins. Demo above - try it without depositing first.

Great Ghosts!: pros and cons

Pros

  • 40,000x ceiling - one of the highest in the Pragmatic catalog
  • Grid expands from 5x4 to 5x8 inside the bonus
  • Three different modifiers can stack in a single feature
  • Money symbols stick and reset the respin counter
  • Stated bonus frequency is roughly 1 in 81 spins
  • Ante Bet and feature buy options available

Cons

  • Base game is almost empty, everything sits in the bonus
  • Top symbol pays only x1.25 for five in a line
  • Triple Ghost Respin Buy costs a steep 300x
  • Max win probability is roughly 1 in 24,146,808 spins
  • Without Ante Bet, dry stretches between bonuses can be long

A 5x4 grid that grows up to 5x8

The base layout is 5 reels and 4 rows with 50 fixed paylines, paying left to right. Bets run from €0.20 up to €240 per spin. With Ante Bet activated, the maximum stake can climb to 6,000 per spin. All three Ante Bet options and the feature buy button live behind the + icon next to the bet panel.

Symbols and paytable

14 symbols total: low pays - 9, 10, J, Q, K, A; premiums - three character icons on coloured backgrounds. The top purple character maxes out at x1.25 for five in a line. That's by design - Pragmatic deliberately moved everything interesting into the feature.

  • Wild - substitutes for any regular symbol (not scatters or money)
  • Blue scatter - Upgrade modifier
  • Pink scatter - Mystery modifier
  • Green scatter - Extra modifier
  • Money symbols - mostly appear inside the bonus, carrying values from x0.6 to x1,250 of the stake

How the grid expands

In the base game you only see 5x4. Inside Ghost Respin, additional rows unlock above the existing field - 8 collected money symbols open the 5th row, 12 open the 6th, 16 open the 7th, 20 open the 8th. The fully expanded 5x8 board is exactly where the 40,000x ceiling lives.

Three scatters, three modifiers, Ghost Respin

How scatters accumulate

Above the reels sit three "crystal balls" - blue, pink and green. Every coloured scatter that lands during the base game gets dropped into its matching ball. As more accumulate, the chance of triggering that ball's modifier grows. If 4 scatters of any colour land in a single spin, the bonus triggers automatically.

The Ghost Respin round itself

The round starts with 3 respins. Only money symbols and empty cells can land - regular symbols are removed for the duration. Every new money symbol resets the counter back to 3 and locks in place. The round ends when the counter hits zero or the entire grid fills up.

Money values range from x0.6 up to x1,250 of the stake. At the end, every value on the grid gets summed and paid out as a single number.

What each modifier does

  • Upgrade (blue) - randomly drops 2x2, 3x3 or 4x4 frames onto the grid. Money symbols inside the frame get upgraded on a separate scale, from x0.3 to x5,750 of the stake.
  • Mystery (pink) - adds pink money symbols. All of them share a single random value between x5.25 and x5,750, fixed for the entire round.
  • Extra (green) - extra money symbols are randomly placed into vacant positions during the feature.

Sometimes two modifiers are active in one bonus, and with the buy option all three trigger together.

Ante Bet and feature buy

  • x5 of the stake - bonus triggers from any 3 scatters in a single spin.
  • x25 of the stake - bonus triggers from any 2 scatters in a single spin.
  • x300 of the stake (Triple Ghost Respin Buy) - instant Ghost Respin entry with all three modifiers active at once.

The 300x buy is expensive, but it's the only way to start the round with all three modifiers running together from spin one.

96.50% RTP and three vendor variants

As usual, Pragmatic Play released three RTP options for operators to choose from. Before depositing, open the in-game info menu and check which one your casino is running.

95.50% Standard
Avoid 94.50% Reduced

How to check RTP before playing

  1. Open the game at your chosen casino
  2. Click the "i" (info) or "☰" (menu) button
  3. Find the "Game Rules" or "Theoretical Return" section
  4. Confirm RTP is 96.50%

94.50% means losing an extra €20 per €1,000 wagered. On a high-roller slot, that gap stacks up fast.

Volatility is high. Per the provider's published math: hit frequency is 35.97%, the bonus triggers roughly once every 81 spins (assuming the standard ante setup), and the chance of hitting the 40,000x ceiling is about 1 in 24,146,808 spins. Without Ante Bet, bonuses come noticeably less often - the slot really only breathes properly with the ante toggle on.

What 500 demo spins actually showed

I tested the demo across three formats, €1 stake each time. The goal was to see which approach actually works on the bankroll, and which one just burns through it.

Base game without Ante Bet (200 spins)

Two bonus entries across 200 spins. The first was 4 blue scatters - only Upgrade activated. Grid expanded to a 5th row, paid +x42 total. The second triggered Upgrade + Mystery, one fat pink money cell at x520, paid +x780. Between bonuses, the base game was bone-dry, payouts rare and small. Net result for the run: about -30 bets.

With Ante Bet x25 (200 spins)

Bonuses came noticeably more often here - 5 entries. The best one fired all three modifiers: grid expanded to 5x7, 17 money symbols stuck, total payout x1,640. The other bonuses were modest, x80 to x300. Even after factoring in the Ante Bet cost (x25 is not a small surcharge), the run closed at roughly +200 bets.

Triple Ghost Respin Buy (5 buys)

The 300x buy unlocks all three modifiers immediately. Across 5 buys: 2 went clearly underwater (x110 and x180), 2 broke roughly even (x310 and x420), one delivered x4,200 thanks to a 4x4 frame landing over a cluster of high money symbols. Total across all 5 buys came to about +x1,500 - meaning a single lucky feature carried the entire series.

The takeaway

The base game without Ante Bet is honestly lifeless here - very little to look at, bonuses too rare. Ante Bet x25 is the sweet spot for anyone who actually wants to play and not just chase a one-off jackpot. The 300x buy is a lottery ticket with a hefty price tag, and unless you can comfortably absorb 50+ buys without flinching, it's better to skip it entirely.

What to pick

Great Ghosts! plays noticeably differently from typical Sweet Bonanza 1000 or Sugar Rush 1000. Those slots build everything around tumbling cascades and stacking multipliers; this one builds around a single feature with money symbols and an expanding grid. If you enjoy a "piggy bank" of fixed values that all get summed at the end, Great Ghosts feels closer in spirit to Hacksaw Gaming or Push Gaming releases than to Pragmatic's usual lineup. If pure cascade adrenaline is what you want, sticking with Sweet Bonanza 1000 makes more sense.

tried it on launch day in demo, jumped to real money same evening. visually solid - the haunted mansion vibe and the three crystal balls filling up actually look good. base game without ante is dead though, just sitting there waiting. bumped to ante x25 and it changed completely. caught a triple-modifier bonus, the 4x4 upgrade frame landed right over a money cluster, paid around x1900 of my stake. proper feature for a fresh release.

did 4 triple respin buys at €0.40 stake. two were complete duds, x60 and x110 returns. third returned x350 - still underwater on the buy. fourth finally paid x1200 and i closed the tab while ahead. the feature itself looks great but 300x is a serious price for what is essentially a lottery draw. honest advice - stick to ante bet, only push the buy if you can absorb a long losing streak without panic-betting.

finally pragmatic released something that isn't another "1000" rebrand. ghost respin honestly feels closer to a microgaming link&win than to anything else in their catalog, but the three-scatter system gives it identity - you keep watching which crystal ball fills up first. pink mystery is the spicy one, caught a x780 from one fixed pink cell. art and audio are top tier. one complaint - x1.25 top symbol pay for 5 in a line is laughable, the base game has zero personality.
